general information
Canberra is the capital city of Australia. With a population of 367,000 inhabitants, it is Australia's largest inland city and the eighth-largest city overall.
The city is located at the northern end of the Australian Capital Territory, which is in South of Austrailia.
Canberra wasn´t the Australian capital city from the very first moment. It became the capital city in 1908 because it was in the middle of the two great cities: Sidney and Melbourne.
As the seat of the government of Australia, Canberra is the site of Parliament House, the High Court and numerous government departments and agencies.
It is considered as a garden city because of its structure designed by Walter Burley Griffin in 1913
Canberra´s main industries are public administration and safety. There´s very little unemployement and, after Sydney, is the main centre of economic activity in Australia.
