canberra´s history: after european settlement
European exploration and settlement started in the Canberra area as early as the 1820s. There were four expeditions between 1820 and 1824.White settlement of the area probably dates from 1823, when a homestead or station was built by Joshua John Moore. He built a ranch in where now is Canberra on 16 December 1826, naming the property "Canberry". This is probably the birth of Canberra city
Little by little European people settle near Camberry. This soon converted in a little town. It was named: Camberra, a mix of Kanbera and Camberry.
